“Discovering how Safe Horizon has been able to deliver innovative services to victims of domestic violence and child abuse really resonated with me.” - Chair of our junior leadership group, Leaders on the Horizon.
Safe Horizon’s leadership group, Leaders on the Horizon, engages young professionals from all walks of life who support our mission to move victims of violence from crisis to confidence.
One of these leaders is Joe Falencki. Joe has been advocating for victims of abuse and contributing to Safe Horizon’s grassroots fundraising efforts for years.
Most recently, he joined Team Horizon as a 2015 New York City Half Marathon (NYC Half) runner and raised more than $3, 400 to benefit Safe Horizon.
Why Safe Horizon? In His Own Words
When Joe first heard about Safe Horizon’s work for victims of violence and abuse from one of our board members, he immediately knew he was interested in getting involved.
As a devoted father of two young children, Joe feels great empathy for families affected by violent crime. On a tour of Safe Horizon’s Manhattan Child Advocacy Center, Joe was shocked to see children his daughters’ ages playing in the waiting area. But he also was impressed by the extensive services available.
“I have two little girls, and could scarcely imagine something as horrifying as either of them becoming a victim, ” Joe said. “Discovering how Safe Horizon has been able to deliver innovative services to victims of domestic violence and child abuse really resonated with me.”
